Writing, And Profiting From, Your Own Ebook

The digital age of the Internet truly has its benefits. There are so many opportunities available for enterprising people to find a sense of fulfillment, and perhaps more importantly, an income stream that would allow them to take a step closer to the promises of financial liberty. You have most probably heard stories of million dollar empires built from virtually nothing in the backyard of the World Wide Web. There are a lot of truths in these tales, as most certainly, you could always create something out of nothing on the Internet.

And why is this?

The answer is simple: because on the Internet, information is the main commodity. People surf from one website to the next in search of information regarding a topic that they are interested with. Information, in its most basic form, is an intangible stock. If you possess information that people would want to get their hands on, all you have to do is to reduce such in writing and weave for yourself a product that people would most surely pay for.

This written product is what we call an electronic book, or an eBook, a tome of knowledge that can be distributed digitally. Just because its root word is “book” doesn’t mean that an eBook should be thousands of pages long, though there is really no limit in how long it could be. If you could share your information in 50 or so pages, then you’re in business. If you could only write around 10 to 30 pages, you could still craft your own electronic product, but it would be more prudent to label it as a special report to avoid undue expectations.

Writing an eBook, as could be expected, would be a piece of cake for a person blessed with a flair for writing. Does this mean, however, that person who is not so gifted cannot avail of this exciting online opportunity? Most definitely not! The fact is, anyone can come up with their own eBook with just an inspired concept.

Indeed, writing an eBook begins with a concept. What do you want to write about? Would people want to know about what you want to share? Would it cater to a profitable market? Is it something that you would enjoy doing?

You would need to do some research about the concept you have in mind before starting out. This research should not be confined to the aspects of the topic you are planning to write about, rather, the profitability of the said topic. Determining its profitability is quite easy to achieve. You could go to www.inventory.overture.com or www.wordtracker.com , type in the said topic, and view the number of searches made on the same. The more searches there, the higher the interest is for such a subject. You could also run a search for the same on any of the search engines in the World Wide Web. The number of results that would appear would reveal your competition. If a competition is offering a comprehensive resource for the said topic for free, you might have a hard time selling your eBook.

If all your initial studies indicate that an eBook on the subject has a good chance of being profitable, then you would have to create an outline for your work. An outline is important so that your eBook would not lose its purpose. An outline is the skeletal framework, or the blue print if you will, of the eBook you want to write. It will set the parameters that your work wishes to cover.

Writing your eBook would just be a matter of filling up the outline.

And if you feel you don’t have the skills to write, or if you simply don’t have the time to sit down and scribble your words? You could always hire a ghostwriter. There are many of these freelancers plying their trade on the Internet. The best places to find them would be www.rentacoder.com , www.elance.com and www.guru.com. Just make sure that the ghostwriter you would decide to hire is perfectly qualified for the job, and that he is worthy of your trust.

Marketing your eBook would be similar to marketing any other information product. You could package it as nicely as possible, but in the long run, the strength of your sales would rely on the strength of your content. If the eBook contains premium, high quality, well presented information, there is no reason why it should not soar.
